Challenging, Diverse and Rewarding

An interview with project manager in realisation Guy Wiltshire from TGW Limited at Market Harborough, United Kingdom.

Name / job / TGW location:
Guy Wiltshire / Project Manager / Market Harborough, United Kingdom

My latest online order:
This morning at Amazon

Since when at TGW:
I started in TGW Limited in 2009

My job as a film title:
"The all round good Guy"

My department as a flag: What does it look like?
A bunch of project managers all huddled together as a team working towards the same goal

Early riser or late riser?
Early now. I have a puppy that needs walking

Tea or coffee?
I am British, it's a cup of tea for me

Stairs or lift?
Depends how many but I'll usually take the stairs

I have currently just started working on a new large freezer warehouse project in Sweden, which is is my main focus at the moment and will be for the next three to four years. It’s a big project with lots of challenges and I am excited to be part of it.

Guy, TEll us about your joB as project manager in realisation.

In short my job as a project manager is about delivery of projects to our customers in the best possibe way, to specification, on time and in budget. We all have a good time. We work to the customers need and all work towards a common goal, there are up and downs and at times it can be tough. Hard decisions have to be made but if we all smile at the end of the project then everyone is happy.

If there is a prejudice about your profession, what is it and how much of it do you think is true?

I think with being a Project Manager people may perceive them as being very direct and forceful, project management isn’t about this. We win as a team and everyone has a part to play. There are times when project managers have to make difficult decisions and have difficult conversations but it is always done to benefit the project. At the end everyone smiles. At least that is how I see it, I don’t hold grudges.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR GREATEST SUCCESS AT TGW?

Handing over my first project to the customer and getting to where I am today as a project manager.  TGW has supported me throughout my journey and I will allways be grateful for the opportunities that have been offered to me.

YOUR WORKING DAY IS OVER - WHAT DO YOU USUALLY DO?

Depends how the day's gone. If it's a Friday I am cracking open a beer for sure. In the week I try to keep active so I'll try to get out on bike, use our TGW fitness studio or I have my puppy who is always wanting to go for a walk or play.

IF YOU COULD LOOK INTO A CRYSTAL BALL: HOW WILL YOUR JOB CHANGE OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT FIVE TO TEN YEARS?

I am still quite new to my role currently but within the next couple of years I would like to see myself working on larger scale projects as a general project manager together with a team. This will give myself the opportunity to grow even further - both personally and within my career at TGW.
